Marcos Launches 50% Discount Beep Cards for Students on LRT and MRT

Must read

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Saturday launched the 50 percent discount Beep card for students, which can be used on Light Rail Transit (LRT) Lines 1 and 2 and the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) Line 3 to help ease the cost of daily commutes.

Speaking at the LRT-2 Legarda Station in Manila, Marcos said the new program aims to provide students with more affordable travel options.
“Napuno ‘yung ating istasyon ng mga estudyante dahil ngayong araw na ito inilunsad na natin ang bagong sistema para magkaroon ng Beep card,” the President said.
“Iyong Beep card ay para mabigyan ng pagkakataon ang mga estudyante na sumakay ng tren na 50 percent ang discount. Kalahati lang sa pamasahe ang binabayaran,” he added.

To make the service more accessible, the government expedited the processing of the student Beep cards, also called “white” Beep cards.
“Alam naman natin students are on a very, very tight budget. That’s why we are very happy to launch this system to give the Beep card to our students. Dati, seven to ten days ang processing. Ngayon, three minutes na lang,” Marcos explained.
Students only need to present proof of enrollment to have their Beep card printed and loaded on-site.

The special cards cost ₱30 and can be loaded with cash or through digital payment platforms such as GCash or PayPal.

During the launch, Marcos was joined by Department of Transportation (DOTr) Acting Secretary Giovanni Lopez and Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) Administrator Hernando Cabrera. The President interacted with students waiting to purchase their cards and inspected the processing area inside the station.

“Kaya ito na po. Congratulations sa ating mga nagbuo nitong sistemang ito. We look forward to the advantages that it will bring to our students—our young people, our most important asset,” he said.

The program follows Marcos’ earlier directives: on June 19, 2025, he ordered a 50 percent fare discount for students using LRT-1, LRT-2, and MRT-3; and on July 16, 2025, he launched a similar 50 percent discount for senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs).
