President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Friday met with members of the Association of General and Flag Officers (AGFO) at Malacañan Palace to discuss key military concerns and rally support for his administration’s anti-corruption efforts.
Among the issues tackled were the proposed salary standardization for military and uniformed personnel and the ongoing modernization of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
During the meeting, AGFO, along with several other organizations, presented manifestos of support for the President’s drive to eliminate corruption, particularly in relation to alleged irregularities in flood control infrastructure projects.
The group commended Marcos for his decisive stance against what they described as “deep-seated corruption,” calling it a serious threat to national security.
“We view corruption not merely as a matter of graft, but as a direct and severe threat to national security. When funds intended to protect our communities from national calamities are siphoned off by greed, it does not only steal from public coffers; it directly endangers lives, destroys livelihoods, displaces families, and erodes the people’s trust in the very institutions meant to serve them,” the AGFO manifesto stated.
They praised the President’s directive to investigate and prosecute those involved in the anomalous flood control projects, calling it “a necessary and commendable step to safeguarding our citizens.”
“This statement affirms our support for the President’s clear and unequivocal stand against all forms of corruption within the government,” AGFO said, pledging to remain “a dependable partner of our Commander-in-Chief in his efforts to uphold integrity, transparency, and accountability in public service for a safer, more prosperous, and more secure Philippines.”
Other groups expressing their support included the National ROTC Alumni Association, the PNP Academy Alumni Association, and the Confederation of National Unified Service Association.
Joining President Marcos at the event were Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, Special Assistant to the President Antonio Lagdameo Jr., Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr., and AFP Chief of Staff General Romeo Brawner Jr.
