President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Monday formally welcomed participants from across the region to the WorldSkills ASEAN Manila 2025, highlighting the Philippines’ renowned hospitality during the opening ceremony at the Marriott Grand Ballroom in Pasay City.
“It is with great pride and joy that I welcome you all here to Manila,” Marcos said in his speech, as he encouraged Filipinos to extend their warmth to the foreign delegates, most of whom come from ASEAN member-states.
This year’s event is the biggest in WorldSkills ASEAN’s history, with around 259 young professionals competing in 32 skill areas. The President noted the Philippines’ role in hosting the competition nearly three decades ago in 1996, calling on Filipinos to show the same hospitality once again.
Marcos also acknowledged Timor-Leste, which is participating in the competition for the first time. He invited delegates and guests to explore beyond the competition halls, enjoy Filipino cuisine, experience the country’s rich culture, and feel the warmth of its people.
“Because here, you are home,” the President said.
The Philippines is hosting WorldSkills ASEAN Manila 2025 from August 25 to 30. Now in its 14th edition, the biennial event is recognized as the largest showcase of professional and technical skills in the ASEAN region.
