President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Tuesday directed the Philippine National Police (PNP) to root out abusive and corrupt personnel from its ranks, warning that such actions erode the institution’s gains and credibility.
Speaking at the 124th Police Service Anniversary in Camp Crame, Marcos lauded the PNP for improvements in response times aided by technology and its use of modern equipment. However, he reminded officers that no innovation can replace the need for police presence on the ground and fidelity to their sworn duty.
Marcos urged the police to investigate and hold erring personnel accountable, stressing: “We do not condone wrongdoing among those who swore to uphold the law and to protect the citizens of our Republic.
The President also cautioned that criminals have grown more sophisticated, exploiting modern technology to deceive and victimize the public.
Ito ang ating dapat sugpuin,” he said.
Marcos assured continued government support for police officers who perform their duties with integrity and dedicate their lives to serving the people.
