Marcos Orders Flood-Control Contractors to Fix Defective Projects at Their Own Expense

Must read

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has directed contractors responsible for defective or substandard flood control projects to carry out repairs at their own expense, stressing that taxpayers should not shoulder the cost of fixing flawed infrastructure.

In the second part of the fourth episode of his BBM Podcast, aired Monday, Marcos said he is open to holding discussions with erring contractors, but only after they deliver projects that meet proper government standards and without charging the public additional costs.

“Ang sinasabi ko nga, interesado ako na makipag-usap tayo sa mga contractor na tapusin nila. Ayusin nila,” the President said.

“O ‘di, mag-usap kami after that. Pero before that, ayusin nila. Ayusin nila. Buoin nila up to specification. At their cost ha? Huwag naman sila mag … don’t expect the government to pay for it. Ayusin nila ‘yung project nila,” he added.

Marcos’ directive aligns with his administration’s broader push for accountability and transparency in infrastructure spending, ensuring communities benefit from projects funded by public money.

The President also encouraged citizens to report poorly implemented projects through the https://sumbongsapangulo.ph/ website, particularly flood control works. He said he has personally inspected some of these projects and confirmed the complaints, which have since prompted investigations by the Executive branch, the House of Representatives, and the Senate.
