Nearly 300 farmers in La Union received fuel subsidy cards from the Department of Agriculture (DA) on Friday, with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. leading the distribution ceremony at the Speaker Pro Tempore Francisco I. Ortega Convention Center in San Fernando City.
A total of 275 farmer-beneficiaries from San Fernando City, Bacnotan, and San Juan were granted fuel subsidy cards, each loaded with P3,000, under the DA’s Fuel Assistance to Farmers Project.
“Dito naman sa Department of Agriculture, nagbibigay po tayo ng fuel assistance card at saka fertilizer,” President Marcos said during the event, adding that the DA is also providing cash aid, fertilizer, and seeds to help farmers recover when crops are damaged.
The Fuel Assistance to Farmers Project is designed to support eligible farmers listed in the Registry System for Basic Sector in Agriculture (RSBSA) who own or rent agricultural machinery used in crop, livestock, and poultry production. The program aims to strengthen farmers’ resilience and cushion the impact of rising fuel costs on the agriculture sector.
The DA is implementing the initiative in partnership with the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) and accredited financial technology partners.
For the Ilocos Region, the DA has allocated P43.33 million to benefit 13,756 farmers.
