Meralco Power Academy (MPA), the energy education unit of Manuel V. Pangilinan-led Manila Electric Company (Meralco), and the National Transmission Corporation (TransCo) have formally joined hands to strengthen the workforce development of the country’s power industry.

Key executives from MPA and TransCo signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that entails a strategic collaboration on projects focused on the joint design and implementation of training programs that support Continuing Professional Development (CPD) across the power sector. These include short courses, capability development initiatives, and talent pipeline programs focused on enhancing workforce expertise.

TransCo President Fortunato Leynes acknowledged the partnership as an important industry development that reflect the strong support of MPA and TransCo to the industry.

Engr. Leynes expressed his gratitude to Meralco Power Academy and reaffirmed TransCo’s commitment to advancing the technical competencies of its workforce. He also recognized the Human Resource Management and Development Division (HRMDD), led by Resource Management Services Group Vice President Maria Theresa L. Laranang, for its ongoing efforts to strengthen employee capabilities.

The partnership will enable the structured information exchange in key areas such as power distribution and other relevant topics in the energy landscape.

Meralco Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Ronnie L. Aperocho emphasized that the partnership takes the shared commitment of Meralco and TransCo a notch higher, as they formalize efforts to advance technical expertise and foster innovation in the Philippine power industry.

“This partnership blends TransCo’s unique national mission with MPA’s specialized role in training and development—a synergy that can make a tangible impact on energy reliability, resiliency, and human capital development,” Aperocho, who also sits as MPA President, said.
