Beneficiaries of the Walang Gutom Kitchen (WGK) in Pasay City expressed heartfelt gratitude to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. for his care and attention to vulnerable communities during his visit to the facility on Thursday.
The President made an unprecedented stop at the DSWD’s first WGK branch, where he personally served nutritious meals to beneficiaries, many of whom are low-income earners or homeless.
Among those who shared their thanks was Michelle Bocaling, 41, who lives at the DSWD shelter in Pasay City with her husband, Mark Enrique, and their four children.
“Maraming salamat po sa tulong ninyo, Presidente Marcos, sa Walang Gutom Kitchen at (DSWD) Pag-Abot Program, sa pagkupkop po sa aming pamilya. Maraming salamat din po sa mga taga-DSWD,” Bocaling said.
Another beneficiary, Ricardo Pimanya, 48, who is single and also staying at the DSWD shelter, expressed appreciation for the daily meals.
“Nagpapasalamat po ako. Masarap ang pagkain,” Pimanya said.
Teresita Juaner, 53, who lives on the streets of Pasay with her daughter, also thanked the President and the DSWD for their constant support.
“Maraming salamat BBM sa mga binigay mong pagkain sa amin dito sa DSWD Walang Gutom Kitchen sa Pasay,” Juaner said.
During the visit, President Marcos, wearing the signature red cap and apron of WGK volunteers, joined DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian, DSWD Undersecretary for Innovations Edu Punay, and Pasay City Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano in distributing meals of rice, meat, noodles, soup, vegetables, and fruits to the beneficiaries.
The Pasay WGK, which opened in December 2024, is the first facility under the DSWD’s Walang Gutom program, providing daily breakfast and lunch to around 600 people, including walk-in clients, to combat hunger and promote nutrition among the most vulnerable sectors.
