President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Thursday led the ceremonial turnover of 575 wheelchairs to local government units (LGUs) in Ilocos Norte as part of the administration’s effort to strengthen healthcare support in the provinces.
The distribution, held in Batac City during the 108th Marcos Day celebration, benefited the province’s 21 municipalities and two component cities. The initiative was made possible through the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO).
Among the recipients were the municipalities of Currimao, Badoc, San Nicolas, Paoay, Marcos, Solsona, Bacarra, and Sarrat, along with the cities of Laoag and Batac.
The wheelchair donation forms part of the government’s broader push to enhance patient care. Under the directive of President Marcos, the administration has rolled out key healthcare measures such as zero balance billing in government hospitals, expanded Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) coverage, and the nationwide distribution of patient transport vehicles (PTVs) to all 1,642 LGUs by yearend.
