BALER, Aurora — President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Monday led the continuation of the Yaman ng Kalusugan (YAKAP) Caravan at Aurora National High School, underscoring government efforts to strengthen health services in schools across Central Luzon.
The caravan is part of the Clinics for Learners’ Access to School Health Services Plus (CLASS+), a joint initiative of the Department of Education (DepEd) and Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) that integrates school clinics with local health systems.
CLASS+ is being implemented through PhilHealth Konsulta, the agency’s primary care package offering consultations, laboratory tests, and medicines. Konsulta has been further expanded through the YAKAP Program, which entitles members to free check-ups, cancer screenings, and up to ₱20,000 worth of medicines annually.
During the Aurora caravan, more than 200 elementary pupils received eye examinations, while over 350 teachers, non-teaching staff, and high school students availed of medical services such as X-rays, electrocardiograms (ECGs), urinalyses, and ultrasounds.
The activity followed the successful June 18 caravan at Esteban Abada Elementary School in Quezon City, attended by Education Secretary Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara, Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa, and Mayor Joy Belmonte.
DepEd, in partnership with the Department of Health (DOH), PhilHealth, local government units, and diagnostic firm 1Life Philippines, aims to expand both the YAKAP Caravan and CLASS+ nationwide to ensure sustained health support for students, teachers, and school personnel.
