President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Wednesday administered the oath of office to the newly elected officials of the League of Provinces of the Philippines (LPP) in a ceremony at Malacañan Palace, commending the group for its role in fostering unity and nation-building since its establishment in 1987.
“Simula nang maitatag ang LPP noong 1987, nagkaroon ang lahat ng mga lalawigan sa bansa ng iisang tinig para sa iisang adhikain: ang kaunlaran ng bawat Pilipino saan mang panig ng mundo,” Marcos said.
The President lauded the LPP’s Manifesto of Support issued last year as a strong demonstration of their commitment to honest public service and governance. He also cited the group’s backing of the government’s digitalization drive, which has reduced fixers, boosted efficiency, and made public services more accessible.
In agriculture, Marcos noted the cooperation between national and local leaders that helped make rice more affordable and ensured subsidies reached those who truly needed them. He also emphasized the vital role governors play during times of crisis, often being the first responders to their constituents’ needs.
Drawing from his experience as governor of Ilocos Norte for over a decade, Marcos said local leadership taught him the importance of knowing which issues to prioritize, whether during droughts or natural calamities.
The President expressed confidence that the newly elected officers will uphold integrity and dedication in fulfilling their mandate.
The LPP, composed of the country’s 82 provincial governments, promotes unity and effective local governance through policy collaboration and capacity-building.
Elected last July 25 to serve until July 31, 2028, the new set of officers is led by reelected National President and South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo Tamayo Jr., reelected National Chairman and Quirino Governor Dakila Carlo Cua, and Executive Vice-President and Pampanga Governor Lilia Pineda.
Other officials include Senior Vice-Presidents Gov. Rodolfo Albano III (Luzon North), Gov. Luis Raymund Villafuerte Jr. (Luzon South), Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. (Visayas), Gov. Nilo Demerey Jr. (Mindanao), and Secretary-General Gov. Nilo Demerey Jr.
