Marcos inaugurates Hyundai shipyard in Subic, signaling revival of PH shipbuilding industry

SUBIC, Zambales — President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Tuesday led the inauguration of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Philippines Inc. at the Agila Southern Yard in the Subic Freeport Zone, marking the revival of the country’s shipbuilding industry.

The event formally launched Hyundai’s shipbuilding operations in the Philippines, bolstering the country’s position as a strategic hub for maritime and industrial growth in the Asia-Pacific region.

A symbolic steel-cutting ceremony signaled the start of construction on the shipyard’s first vessel, ushering in a new era for local shipbuilding and engineering.

Malacañang said the President’s presence highlighted the government’s strong policy support and commitment to drawing long-term, high-impact investments in key industries.
